Gems = Discovered & Undiscovered Books

So for fiction fanatics and book lovers everywhere, you have stumbled upon an unmined gold vein sprinkled with glittering jewels for this whole Hop.

In this particular Blog Hop, I get to answer 10 questions and you will learn about my latest novel which will be available late October 2012.

Q & A

What is the working title of your book?

Scarlett Phoenix ~ Book 1 in The Seraphoenix Series

Where did the idea come from for the book?

I was daydreaming whilst working on another novel back in 2009, I had just taken a break from the computer and I was painting my garden gates at the time when this fantastic idea just floated into my mind like a white fluffy cloud with a super shiny silver lining.  I was completely blown away by the idea and quickly wrote everything down for fear of losing this little pearl in a torrent of gushing thoughts.

What genre does your book fall under?

Young Adult Paranormal Romance or YA PNR ~ However if you love angels, a splash of romance with a dash of history, and a constant sprinkling of a rollercoaster plot then this would appeal to all ages.  But if I do have to pin it down to one genre then it’s definitely YA PNR.

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

OMG! You are asking the impossible!

Wow, firstly Scarlett would have to be cast; she’s a tall willowy blond.

Leo ~ oh Leo, he’s just breath-taking.

The rest of the cast are all heavenly in their own right, this makes it all the more ‘Mission Impossible’ so I think the best thing is, that you peeps read the book and we’ll have a poll running on my blog for who the readers would like to be cast.  As there are so many truly wonderful actors and actresses in the world I could hardly choose from all that talent on my own.

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

‘She is the only one of her kind, he is her last hope.’

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

Being published main stream before, this time I’m opting for being master of my own destiny and sailing that ship wherever it wants to go.  In other words I’m being totally indie!

Also, I get to decide all the key factors, such as when it’s published, what format it’s published in, the cover design and everything else.  It’s really quite exciting!

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

6 months and then I’ve been editing for a while.  The first draft is always the easy part, it’s when you go back over it and have to strengthen plot lines, change character personalities if they aren’t behaving like they should and just tighten everything up with a nice twinkly bow.

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

This is a difficult question.  I read an awful lot of YA PNR and to be honest I haven’t read anything like this.  I’ve read some truly fabulous novels and as mine is about angels, I suppose that is the only mutual element to link my book with others within the YA PNR genre.

However, I wouldn’t like to compare or equate my novel to any that are on the market right now, as I write in my own style and have my own ideas.  I think it’s very important to write your own story and not get caught up in all the hype and the ‘what’s hot and what’s not’ in the publishing world.
Write your own story and be as original as you can.

Who or What inspired you to write this book?

There was nothing in particular that inspired me. It was like I said earlier, a bolt from the blue while I was working on another totally unrelated novel. But it was one of those ideas that gets stuck in your head and it won’t let go until it’s on the paper and the story is finished.  This book practically wrote itself, I just happened to be sitting at the keyboard at the same time!

What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

I don’t want to give too much away as Scarlett Phoenix will be out next month; this is a No Spoiler Zone or N.S.Z. So all I’m going to say is this:

‘Scarlett Paige is just an ordinary teenager until her parents move to America.  Thrown into a new school, a new town and a whole new way of life, things can't get any worse until her 18th birthday arrives with a whole new set of life threatening complications and everything she knows is transformed forever.’

My beta readers just couldn’t get enough and that in itself is 24ct gold to me.

So if you love paranormal romances then you are going to love this!
(Well I sincerely hope you do!)
