Guest Author Interview
10 Questions with Emma Meade
1.) Firstly can you tell us a little about yourself:
Hi Bella. I live in Cork, Ireland, where it rains an awful lot. I adore reading and writing paranormal fiction and my dream is to be able to quit the day job, write full time and move somewhere sunny.
2.) What inspired you to start writing novels for the YA PNR genre?
I never grew out of reading YA novels. I loved them when I was 12, 18 and even now as an adult. There's something liberating about reading YA stories. You can relive your teenage years in a much more exciting way. Erin in Under the Desert Moon is a dreamer, as I was and still am. I hope young girls can relate to her wanting to escape her boring, small town life.
3.) Have you written any other novels?
I wrote a collection of paranormal, short stories called Night Sighs (for adult eyes only) and am now working on a follow up novel, Night Whispers which hopefully should be out next year. I have a few other half finished novels lying around the place which I hope to go back to in the coming months.
4.) Are you working on anything right now?
I'm editing another collection of short stories which I'll be self-publishing in December (all things going to plan) and I'm finishing up the first draft of Night Whispers.
5.) What inspires you to write?
The feeling I get when I look back on a finished story or novel. Writing allows me to be myself. All is right with the world when I'm having a good writing session.
6.) Can you offer any advice to the fledgling authors, just starting out?
Read a lot and write as much as you can. Basic, but that's about all I have. And write the book you want to read.
7.) What is your all time favourite novel/author?
Can't possibly choose. I love Stephen King's The Stand and I read the Twilight series every year. Can't wait to go see Breaking Dawn: Part Two.
8.) What are you reading at the moment & would you recommend it to us?
I'm reading Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness. If you liked her first book, A Discovery of Witches, you should enjoy this tale of time travelling, witches, daemons and vampires.
9.) If you could Time Travel, what year would you visit and why?
I'm just laughing reading this question after my last answer. I'd like to time travel only if I was immune against diseases, gunfire etc. It would be no fun going back to medieval Europe only to die from plague or witness the battlefields of a world war and get hit by a stray bullet. I'd like to take a stroll through Ancient Egypt.
10.) Do you have a favourite quote?
Nope. As a writer, I should be ashamed. Actually, I do have a quote I love. When Buffy says to Willow: "Seize the moment, because tomorrow you might be dead."
