In the stillness of my mind as the world around me communicates with a creative passion that touches my heart to reveal and release an overflow of profound poetry from deep within the recesses of my very soul. I flow with an artistically unique rhythm that is all my own. Step into a world created to sooth, center and expose the senses. I’m artistry through fluent and flowing poetry in motion and I’m letting it flow…

Your musical voice to my inspirational thoughts now silent

A King Among Prince
A poem in the form of a story dedicated to a precious little boy with beautiful photos
Hi De Ann and welcome to my blog!
Firstly can you tell us a little about yourself?
I’m known in the world of poetry as “Native American Girl” Native for short. I’m very proud and extremely honored to be a poet, artist, writer, photographer and author, sonrisa…. My Poetry has been widely anthologized by The League of American Poets, 2005 Expressions II red book edition. Lavender Aurora, Poetry Editor of the 2006 Great Poets of the Western World and Excellence in Poetry Series.
Writer Block Periodical for the Urban Literary, Prophasee Publishing honored me in their Volume 1 serial #11, September 2003 edition. I was also named Famous Poet for 2005, chosen for the Poet of the year Medallion and the Shakespeare Trophy of Excellence by The Famous Poets Society, Lavender Aurora. I have been honored to work with and be included in “Author Niamh Clune’s” anthology “Every Child is Entitled to Innocence” her poem “Haunted Dreams and Midnight Screams”, where the proceeds go for the cause against “Child Abuse” 2012 as well as her other Anthology’s “Butterfly Effect” and “Song Of Sahel S.O.S.” 2012. My latest projects collaborating with an amazing group of artist, authors, poets and musicians from IIA “Indies In Action” anthology titled “Twist of Fate” which go to support Oklahoma Tornado victims, and Anthology’s “April Rains” and “United We Stand” from ULA “United Literary Artist” which go to support the victims of Texas weather torn areas as well as the Boston bombing victims and the military soldiers. I am currently working on my second book of poetry and my second children’s book.
How long have you been writing?
I’ve been writing since I was about 4 that I can recall. My Great-Grandmother was a writer/journalist and on our farm she had a shed office and I had my very own desk, typewriter, pencils, pads etc right beside hers. So as she wrote and conducted her business, I did also, smile… She was the reason I wanted to write and became a Poet, Author and Photographer.
What inspired you to start writing novels for your chosen genre?
I wanted to write about what mattered to me. So my inspiration came from the world around me, my life and my experiences. I wanted to write a book that reflects a world that each and every soul could read and somehow connect to on a personal level.
Are there any other genres you’ve written?
Yes. I’ve taken a poem of my grandson and photographs and written a Children’s Book titled “A King Among Prince” it’s a very short read for small children and adults alike. But I wanted to write a children’s book that would introduce small children to the amazing world of poetry.
Have you published any other novels, if so can you share the details?
No. Not yet.
Are you working on anything new right now?
Yes. One is a secret for the moment. Details will be revealed in due course.
What motivates and inspires you to write?
Life inspires me. I’m Native American and I was taught from birth to become one with the Universe, Natures, and Wildlife around me. I am inspired by my joy, my pain, my friendships, Love, acquaintances.
Can you offer any advice to the fledgling authors, just starting out?
I would say to do your research. Make sure that this is truly what you want and follow your dream and path with true passion. I say this because to become an author is wonderful, hard work and often times overwhelming. But if you truly in your heart and soul want to be a writer and author do it with the truest passion for what you want to do and be. Be true to yourself and your art. But strive to produce the best of yourself through your art. It will be your legacy that will last throughout the ages, sonrisa... Know that writing is just the beginning of a very wondrous journey… patience and perseverance is a must… and never lose your passion for writing…
I have a few really, really favorites. #1 Jane Austen’s, #2 L.A. Banks “The Vampire Huntress Legends” 14 books in the series, and #3 J.K. Rowling’s “Harry Potter Series”. These are my three all time favorite series in order, smile.

I have more than one lol… Jane Austen, Charles Dickens and L.A. Banks

Do you have a favorite quote, if so what is it?
Yes. It’s an Ancient Indian Proverb; “Treat the earth well: it was not given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you by your children. We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors; we borrow it from our Children.
If you could be any character in any novel, who would it be and why?
Yes. “Damali Richards”. From Author: L.A. Banks series of books. (Vampire Huntress Legend). Because the horrors I’ve had to overcome and be a warrior through, for many reasons I found myself identifying with this character.
How do you come up with the Titles for your novels?
The title to my first book was actually the name on one of my personal journals that held my poetry and journaling, when thinking of a title it was my husband who actually suggested this as a title because the poetry I selected was truly my soul and my life. So I was giving my readers a chance to Peer Inside My Soul and Seeing Me, smile….The poetry included touches Love, Family, Friendship, Tragedy, Love and Trust Lost and Regained… you will go through a range of emotions as the poetry truly grips your heart and soul. The title to my Children’s book was actual the title to a poem from within my first book that I wrote in honor of mi nieto/my grandson. He’s my beautiful bright eyed little King, sonrisa…
Do you decide on your book title first, or do you write the book and then the title is decided later?
It depends. Each poem and book has to touch me and I look to the universe and God to help me in the process… it’s all emotional for me.
When working on your current novel, were there any moments when you thought:- OMG what am I doing?
Oh my lol… I have those moments often. I emerge myself so emotionally that it takes so much from me. So I wonder what I am doing. Why am I doing this to myself? The answer: because I have no choice. I am Poetry In Fluent and Flowing Poetry In Motion and I’m Letting It Flow… I don’t know how to be any other way.

I’m a poet so I go with the flow… my emotions and experiences drive me…
Are there any tips or tricks you use to get to know your characters?
No. Life is all I need.
If you don’t like a character you’re writing about, what do you do?
a. Kill them off instantly
b. Get over it and learn to like them
c. Give them a whole new personality
Poetry works in a more personal way. So once I begin pen to paper it pours from me till it’s finished. I may tweak it here or there but nothing much changes.

I have my iPod in my ears often, sonrisa… My music genres can range from Native American, Hispanic, Hip Hop, Classical, Inspirational, Opera, Pop to R&B, Rock and Rap. It depends on my mood at the time. I love instrumental as well. Flutes, Drums, Cello, Violins. It is in my blood, sonrisa.
If you were stranded on a distant planet:- which of your characters would you like to be marooned with and why?
My King of course, sonrisa… He is my universe…
Which type of book do you prefer to read?
My answer is B and C. I love the smell and feel of books. Going to the Library or Book Stores…. don’t get me wrong my Kindle is great as well, but I’m old fashioned.
Do you have any weird writing rituals? (Such as, you can only start writing after you’ve scoffed all the choc-chip cookies and drank 3 cups of coffee or only after you’ve listened to a certain song or playlist? Etc…)
Yes. I set up my little alter next to me which includes my Rosary, Native American Dolls, Dream Catcher and a photo of my Parents/Grandparents who are passed away, and my music for that moment.
Do you have any input in the Cover design of your novel?
Yes. I’m an artist also. So after I’ve gotten my manuscript all finished and read through it, I will either dream of it or it will just appear in my mind and I have to sketch or draw it.
What is the best thing about writing for you?
That I am Blessed enough to be able to do what I love.

I sketch, crochet, quilt, and watch my “Charmed, Teen Wolf, and my guilty pleasure of Keeping Up with the Kardashian's.”
Are you a morning person or a night owl?
I’m a little of both. I’m up with the birds and down around 3 am. I sleep when I sleep and up when I’m up… been this way my entire life.
What’s your least favorite part of the writing process?

Italy. It’s been my dream since I can remember. Then Universal Studios “Harry Potter” I want to get my wand, lol…
Who would be your dream cast if your novel was made into a movie?
Zoe Saldana, Hugh Jackman or Jason Statham, as the love interest. I haven’t thought past this.
If you had a choice, which would be your preference: Your books serialized - a weekly show or made into movies?
Made into a movie.
Tell us one thing that no-one else knows about you – your darkest secret if you dare!
I don’t really have any dark secrets lol….that would be exciting….but I love over eating Chick-Fa-la fries and coleslaw…..can’t get enough ;)
If there was an apocalypse, would you want to go up in the middle of it, or be a post-apocalypse survivor and live without the creature comforts that we are so used too?
I want to go up in the beginning of it when the skies open up. I can live without comforts if I had to but if given a choice I want to go up get equipped with warrior equipment and return to fight a mighty battle.
What is the one book you can’t live without?
My Bible. I still think that it’s the greatest book ever written. You get intrigue, lust, fire brimstones, Angels and God Almighty.
