Glory Rabenaugh

Book blurb:

As High Priestess of the most up & coming Coven in the world, Reece Crawford figures that her future has already been mapped out for her. Unfortunately, being High Priestess with incredible power can be too tempting for other supernaturals. Sexy witches, warlocks, vampires, and werewolves all play a part in this exciting and intriguing series.

Reece closed up her altar room just as she heard a knock on her bedroom door. Nathan stuck his head in cautiously. “Is it all clear?” he asked.
Reece gave him a tired smile and waved him in. She sank down into her bed, still wearing the beautiful gown and fell back into her pillows. She was always so drained after doing a spell. After her Kindling, it would be different. The power she would have would be welcome. She turned her head in Nate's direction and blew out a breath. “Earlier today, I felt someone using black magic. Piers ‘fessed up to it. I've not asked specifics, and I don't want to. He's changing now, I'm sure you see it as well. His temper is out of control and I'm afraid of what he's planning on doing to you, to anyone that upsets him in any way,” she told Nate is a somber tone.
“Black magic? Are you sure?” Nathan asked not able to believe it himself.
Reece nodded soberly and his eyes met hers in a wide gaze. “I just performed a binding spell on Piers. He will hate me for it I'm sure...but I had no other option. If I had the power, I would have bound Piers from hurting anyone but I won't have that type of power until my Kindling.”
Nate plopped down on the bed beside her and took her hand in his. He opened his mouth to say something but the bedroom door flew open and Piers strode in. Reece gasped and stood up quickly. Nathan also rose and faced Piers.
“I had to warn him. You know I had to,” Reece said as she walked over to him slowly. Piers glared at her, the anger directed towards her now.
“You had to huh? You tell me not to be jealous yet you have him in your bedroom...on your bed. This is between me and him, my so called friend,” Piers snarled.
“Piers,” she began but Piers interrupted.
“I warned you not to make me jealous again. It ends now Reece,” he cried angrily.
Piers grabbed Reece’s wrist roughly and pulled her towards him. She gasped at his roughness and it killed that one soft spot left in his heart to make her hurt. But damn it, the image of the two of them lying in bed, hand in hand, about to do what the gods only knew was burning a hole right through the middle of him. When these blinding rages had started to take him over, Piers had initially fought them. He didn’t want Reece to see that side of him and he definitely didn’t want her to see the internal battle he was going through just to keep the rages at bay. But Piers had decided to stop fighting the urge to hurt. Hurting others felt good, felt delicious. It satisfied a part of him even Reece couldn’t touch. And he was starting to get greedy with that feeling. Holding his tiny woman close enough to him to run his nose along her jaw if he wanted, he held those tiny wrists of hers and squeezed, liking the whimper that escaped her lips. Piers knew it was only a matter of seconds until he goaded Nate enough to react and he was right. Nate rushed in between them and shoved Piers back, wrenching Reece out of his grasp. Now’s the time, he told the inner beast inside of himself. Piers charged Nate ready to relish in the ass kicking that Nate had been asking for this whole time. Piers raised his fist and then it was as if he ran head on into a brick wall. He bounced back and tried again but couldn't move another inch forward.
Reece watched wide-eyed as her spell came to fruition. Piers looked shocked, and then confused. His eyebrows drew close together. He stepped back a step and then tried again. His coal black eyes flew to Reece knowingly.
“You didn't!” he shouted in disbelief.
“You gave me no choice,” she said folding her arms in front of her chest. His face crumpled and Reece had to bite her tongue to stop her from going to him.
“You...I can't believe it. You betrayed me Reece.” Tears filled his eyes and spilled onto his cheeks.
“I didn't Piers. Please listen,” she began.
“No!” he shouted. “You've chosen whose side you want to be on.” Then, he practically ran out of the room.

Author Interview:

Welcome Glory

Firstly can you tell us about yourself?
I’m an extremely shy and private person. I keep to myself, I don’t do public engagements, I hate walking into a crowded restaurant by myself. I’m pretty sure I have a social anxiety disorder but I’m okay with that because that’s me! I’m divorced with two amazing children. I was born, raised, and still reside in the suburbs of St. Louis. I’m half Japanese and half German and I’m passionate about passing on both cultures to my children.

How long have you been writing?
I’ve been writing since grade school. I moved recently and I found something I had saved from fifth grade where the teachers asked their students what they wanted to be when they grew up and they compiled all the answers into a newspaper like article. I didn’t remember what I had put but was thrilled when I read, “and Glory Rabenaugh is now a successful author…”. It fueled my fire a little bit because it reminded me that I’ve always loved writing and that I’m meant to do this.

Are there any other genres you’ve written?
My one true love is the paranormal genre. I do write some things in the New Adult category but I’m always so tempted to throw in a dashing European vampire or ruggedly handsome werewolf.

Have you published any other novels, if so can you share the details?
I have two books published currently. “Revelations Coming”, A Dark Truth Novel Series #1 and “Crossroads”, The Wanderlust Series #1. Both of these books reside in the paranormal romance genre.

Are you working on anything new right now and can you tell us more?
I am always working on something! Every time I have a crazy dream I start writing, developing the plot. One book I’m working on will be a dystopian love story where the government has inserted chips into your arm that cast a certain color glow about you according to economic status. Another book I’m working on is about a researcher who has developed the vampire gene and is on the run from the government and others who want their hands on it. Another book I’m working on is a vampire book set in the future where vampires run the world and humans are in hiding. I just had a dream the other night that keeps haunting my thoughts by day. It’s set in medieval times and I’m running from someone…a warring clan perhaps. The prince of that clan finally catches up to us and drowns my sister, believing she killed his brother…when I was the one who did it.
I spilled my guts…no more peeks into the workings of a madwoman lol.
Can you offer any advice to the fledgling authors, just starting out?
Just do it. I wrote Crossroads four years ago. I literally wrote four books while I was on bed rest and pregnant with my son. I left them to handle a busy work like and only recently I got motivated to actually do something with my writing. It’s a part of me…just like it’s a part of you. Share it!

Do you have a favourite quote, if so what is it?
“the only way to a woman's heart is along the path of torment” – Marquis de Sade

If you could be any character in any novel, who would it be and why?
I would be Victoria Gardella from Colleen Gleason’s The Gardella Vampires. She’s beautiful, intelligent, a leader, an assassin, passionate, and she has all the men falling for her.

How do you come up with the Titles for your novels?
I don’t stress about it…there is an ebb and flow to writing, just like there is for anything creative. Don’t force it. I try and make the title as relevant to the novel as possible while still being thought provoking and unique.

Do you decide on your book title first, or do you write the book and then the title is decided later?
I always decide on my book title AFTER I write the novel. I don’t want to encapsulate myself into a book just because I named it something. Things change as I write so it would be counting my eggs before they’re hatched to use a title before I’m done writing.

When working on your current novel, were there any moments when you thought:- OMG  what am I doing with this plot line? Or:  Who are these people I created? etc…
Yes lol…plenty of times. And I will write, rewrite, redact, take out, make them disappear. If it doesn’t make sense with the direction I’m doing in, I change it. That’s the difficulty of not being able to write and write and write without any sleep or breaks or family time because I wake up in different moods and you can see that in my writing.

Do you have a day job, other than writing – if so can you share?
I work like a dog lol. I’m a Director of Operations in the healthcare field, so I’m fortunate enough to be able to work from home which allows me to work on my side projects when I need to. But I also have to heavily multi-task…you should see my poor desk at home!

What is your preferred method of writing:-  The plot pre-planned from day one, or just go with the flow and see what happens next?
I have a general theme/plot in mind but once I start writing sometimes that goes out the window. I’m definitely a fly by the seat of my pants in many aspects of my life!

If you don’t like a character you’re writing about, what do you do?
            a. Kill them off instantly
             b. Get over it and learn to like them
             c. Give them a whole new personality
            d. or something else – do tell?! Please! – I might not kill them off, but I may phase them out. Or if I really abhor them, I will rewrite it without them.

Do you like to write while listening to music and if so, does your book have particular playlist you’d like to share?
I love music! It depends what mood I am in because my music tastes range from rap/hip hop to top 40 to alternative rock.
I keep these particular songs on loop when I’m writing…
Madness – Muse
Radioactive – Imagine Dragons
Royals – Lorde
Summertime Sadness – Lana Del Rey
Supermassive Black Hole – Muse
Uprising – Muse
All Around Me – Flyleaf
Full Moon – The Black Ghosts
Still into You – Paramore
My Immortal – Evanescence

If you were stranded on a faraway island:-  which of your characters would you like to be marooned with and why?
I’m partial to Arias. I love a bad boy with muscles and natural protective instincts. I need someone who will keep all the crazy island creatures away and fashion a spear out of the trees to protect me from the islanders. Plus…he has big hands to rub suntan lotion on me effectively : )

Which type of book do you prefer to read?
           a. ebook
            b. paperback
            c. hardback
            d. Non – I listen to audiobooks!

Do you have any input in the Cover design of your novel?
I design my covers myself being on the extremely tight budget that I am. I originally went to school for graphic design so I know my way around Photoshop and other design programs, so I figured why not? I do hope they look professional enough J

What is the very best thing about writing for you?
I love writing because it lets me live. It allows me to be someone that I’m not, experience things that I would never do, feel like the heroine that I’ll never be.

How many novels/books do you typically read in a month?
I’ve been crazy busy here lately so not many. However, last year I read about 200 books but I’m nowhere near that track record this year.

What is your favourite genre to read at the moment?
Always paranormal romance…I might sprinkle in some dystopia every once in a while though.

Which of the following suits you best?
a.      Thrill Seeker
b.      Mildly Meek
c.       Totally Chilled
d.      All of the above

Apart from writing, do you have any other hobbies that you’d like to share with us?
I coach my daughter’s select soccer team which takes up a TON of my time. We are literally at practice every night of the week but Thursdays and you might as well cross the weekend off my list of free time too! No wonder I don’t have time for a boyfriend!

Are you a morning person or a night owl or an inbetweener?
I am far from a morning person but I can’t stay up crazy late. My peak hours for creativity are 8pm-midnight.

What’s your least favourite part of the writing process?
OMG…the editing for sure. I hate having to reread the novel a million times, inserting this, deleting that, lengthening this chapter, having more conversations in that chapter. It ruins my enjoying for the book but the end result is so worth it!

How long does it typically take for you to write a novel?
It varies…I go through periods of writers block so I try not to put too much stress on myself otherwise it won’t go away! If I’m deep into the book and my thoughts are racing about it, I could finish it in a matter of a couple months.

How many hours a day do you dedicate to your writing?
I have no set schedule AT ALL. I have to be in the mood to write. Trying to force myself to write is not effective. But I love writing and even if it’s not on a particular novel I’m trying to work on, I write AT LEAST two hours a day.

Are you a:
a.      Laptop Writer
b.      Desktop Writer
c.       iPad Writer
d.      Pen and Paper Writer

If you didn’t write or you went through a dry spell (aka a bit of writers block), what would you do to fill the creative void instead?
I enjoy drawing…pencil and paper. I have to be in the mood though, otherwise it turns out looking like my three year old’s drawings. I love fantasy art.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
Beauty inspires me. I would wade in the crystal clear waters of Fiji while my native hunk of a man waits to rub suntan oil on me in my open air hut by the water. I would sit lakeside in Glacier National Park with canvas and oils and paint the wonders of God. I would search for the ghosts of the kings of the past among the underground tunnels of the Egyptian pyramids. I would dance naked in the moonlight around Stonehenge. I would navigate the emerald waters off the coast of Thailand. I would parachute down over Dubai so that I can see the architectural ingenious of man. I would kneel down and pray in the Sistine Chapel while still being able to see its beauty behind closed lids. And I would be serenaded by a delightfully handsome stranger under the shining lights of the Eiffel Tower as snowflakes grace my cheek.

Who would be your dream cast if your novel was made into a movie?
Revelations Coming:
Venus – Sara Hyland. She’s the girl in Modern Family. I love this pic and has Venus written all over it from the golden, caramel colored hair, to the big doe-shaped green eyes.

Riken – Chris Hemsworth. Soooo yummy. I needed someone who had that clean, cut look.

Arias -  the closest actor that matches my mental image is Vin Diesel. He’s not a perfect match but there’s not many ripped, bald, scary looking actors in Hollywood.

Drake - Kellan Lutz. He is definitely on my top ten hottest guy list so he can play any part he wants in my movies. But I put him as Drake because Drake is a hunter. So, he has to have a muscular build, look fearsome, but have a smile that would melt your heart into a puddle of goo.

Reece - India Eisley. She played the little girl in Underworld:Awakening. I think she’s gorgeous. If we dye her hair black for the part, and insert some grey contacts, she’d be a ringer.

Nate – Chace Crawford is my perfect Nate…handsome, popular boy next door type.

Piers – Robbie Amell has that perfect smouldering look for Piers.

Alex – If we could dye his hair dark brown or black, my Alex would be Channing Tatum. Can I get another yummmmm.

If you had a choice  – a dream come true - which would be your preference: Your books serialised  -  a weekly show or made into movies?
I would prefer my book(s) be made into movies. With movies, the story line can stay true to form. If it turned into a weekly show, then the story could and probably would go off into a direction that I wouldn’t want to go into. Prime example, True Blood & Vampire Diaries.

Many thanks to Glory for joining us today and the awesome give-away!
