Author Interview:

Hi Sunny and welcome to my blog!

Firstly can you tell us about yourself?

First of all, thanks Bella for giving me this opportunity to meet new people and present myself to a larget global audience.
Coming back to the question, my name is Shailesh K Jha and I write under the pen name of ‘Sunny Shandilya’. I am a SAP consultant with IBM. So basically computer stuff ;-)

How long have you been writing?

This is my debut novel which took 2.5 years to complete mainly because of the research involved.

What inspired you to start writing novels for your chosen genre?

I belong to the generation who drooled over superpowers and lived in the fantasy world but at the same time I was not happy by the way supernatural was always projected to happen mainly in the USA or UK. I wanted to see a global story because frankly speaking, aliens could attack anywhere on earth and not just a few places. That was when I decided to write a global story which travels in nine countries.

Are there any other genres you’ve written?

No, this is my debut work.

What motivates and inspires you to write?

This is something which a truly believe in and it the first line of the acknowledgement of my book – ‘Writing is a creative art and I feel creativity is best explored when you write about the unknown.’

Can you offer any advice to the fledgling authors, just starting out?

I am still very new to writing but a very small advice that I give to myself is that don’t look down upon because of criticism because writing a book is like opening a new restaurant – how much ever you high price your stuff, there would still be takers of it and how much you try to offer good service and food, they would still be criticism for it J

How do you come up with the Titles for your novels?

Nav is the protagonist of the story which in Hindi means ‘new’ and also the number nine in Hindi is called Nav. As the number nine has a very important role in my story, so this name was kept.

Do you decide on your book title first, or do you write the book and then the title is decided later?

It’s always the story first and then the title.

Do you have a day job, other than writing – if so can you share?

Yes, I write only part time. I am working as a software engineer.

If you don’t like a character you’re writing about, what do you do?
a. Kill them off instantly
b. Get over it and learn to like them
c. Give them a whole new personality
d. or something else – do tell?! Please!
Give them a whole new personality.
Do you have any weird writing rituals? (Such as, you can only start writing after you’ve scoffed all the choc-chip cookies and drank 3 cups of full-caff coffee?  Or only after you’ve listened to a certain song or playlist? etc… do share)

Do you have any input in the Cover design of your novel?

Yes, he cover was designed by a friend but we both worked on it till late in the night.

Which of the following suits you best?
a.      Thrill Seeker
b.      Mildly Meek
c.       Totally Chilled
           d.      All of the above

Thrill Seeker

Are you a morning person or a night owl or an inbetweener?

Basically a night owl but I try to scribble whenever I get time.

How long does it typically take for you to write a novel?

The first one took me 2.5 years.

Are you a:
a.      Laptop Writer
b.      Desktop Writer
c.       iPad Writer
d.      Pen and Paper Writer

Laptop Writer coz it’s easier to correct your mistakes with auto spell check *wink*

Can you tell us why you think we’d love to read your novel?

Because, it is woven through reality. I made sure that I have my facts ready and don’t just write baseless fantasy. When you read the story, you would surely have this feeling that this could be true. You would believe that you are a partner of Nav’s adventures.

Thanks for joining me today and thanks to Sunny for stopping by and sharing his awesome fantasy novel with us.
